With food prices going up across the nation, more Americans are turning their backyards into vegetable gardens, according to this article in The New York Times. Both seed gardens and garden shops are reporting sharp increases in sales and community plot wait lists are filled with three-year waits. Gardeners both new and old are seeing the benefit. “One organic cucumber is $3 and I can produce it for pennies,” reports first-time gardener Cassandra Feeley.
