(power off) Try a new lamp. If it re occurres, It could be a short somewhere, a strand of wire sticking out of the wire nut, a poorly wired socket,etc. Recheck all the conections, you should not be able to see any copper, use electrical tape or trim the connections. A small black spot, with a bit of molten metal is a good indication of where a short occurred. (will smell burnt) If this fails and you do not have any experience ripping it apart and using a tester, take it back. If it has taken a hit, the components might have fried. (do you really need another remote control in your life?)
