consuming your ice in a manner that replenishment is quicker.

The ice becomes stale either from sitting too long or by absorbing smells from other foods in the unit.

We have this same problem and periodically we have to dump the ice in the garbage disposal and start off new.

If you dump the ice at night, in the morning you will have fresh ice.

Also, consider putting an open box of Arm and Hammer Baking Soda in the freezer and ice box to absorb odors.
