Your stove Retailer should be able to give you a decent idea of what the code is for installing a stove. (He's in the business of selling them AND, most likely, installing them.) If not, ask him to see if he can find out the installation 'specs' for the type of stove you want.

You may need a fire/heat resistant base too. And if your interior wall is brick (and unpainted), the wall that the stove is closest to may not have to be the 'standard' distance away from the wall. Let your retailer know what you have on the floor and what you have for walls.

PS: If you're looking at a gas-fired, vented stove/fireplace, you'll need ductwork to the 'outside world' too. Check w/him on that too.
