Larry, in my opinion, I hate always saying that, my shadow will eat me alive if I don't.
anyway, I would rake and sweep away all the chatt from the area exposing the leak area. Then dig up around that area to expose more of the inner roof.
Then I would get some of that liquid tar in a five gallon can and pour on the affected area. Let it dry and then pour on more chat and rake smooth.
Saw this done on a project in Corpus Christi and I was enlightened. No torch, no roof fires, and no mess. This job worked.
