Hi, Randall. If you will go to you will find plans for 7 different kinds of work benches. I think that the kind that you want is listed as Bench,Workshop Table. My bench/tables are about the same but I used 1x3's put together in an L shape for the legs with 2 thicknesses of 3/4" plywood for the top. I put tools like drill press, grinder and scroll saw on one and actually work on the other. Since I am kind of tall, I made my benches 40" high, which saves the back. You can vary the standard designs to fit your personal tastes easily. You might also find that some diagonal bracing for the legs is a big help. Having many different designs to consider from the above site, you can pick and choose the features that best fit your needs.
