is pretty safe if you are willing to learn how to do it safely. There is a lot of information available for the homeowner to do this. I have not looked at the book, but several people have recommended the basic electricity book at Home Depot. For years I have recommended the Time-Life Basic Electricity book. You should be willing to ask around for help, get a voltage testing device whether it be a meter or test lamp, and not be shy about about seeking information when you aren't sure about what you are doing.
