My comments, although not popular with
historical purists, would be to switch to aluminum
gutters, and here's why...
Remember that the real reason for gutters is to direct rainwater away from your lovely old house.
Wooden gutters no matter from what wood or treated in whatever fashion, will never be a better
choice over aluminum in terms of servicability,
initial cost for materials/installation, and effectiveness. Remember that for a gutter system to be functional it is imperative that the system remain leakproof.
Also, when a standard gutter is full of water, its very heavy...Think of the wear on your hanger system and facia board when your wooden gutters get full of water...
