Wood Stove for Heating

Posted by Bob Manthei on February 23rd, 2001 09:47 AM

I installed a small woodburning stove in my basement, only for small fires while watching movies etc. I bought the stove from Lowes. It was their smallest cheapest one. It came with very little installation instruction. I connected the stove pipe to an existing gas furnace chimney that is not used by the furnace anymore since I upgraded my furnace. Problem: Smoke billows from chimney freely, it also billows from the pipe that that connects to the damper. It came with a rope type seal, and I used furnace cement around the edges. The furnace cement just fell off when it got hot. How do I properly seal the damper to 6" stovepipe?
thank you
