We are looking at purchasing a kit house that is completely made of Red Wood. When the house was built 25 years ago they dug out an area in the side of a hill. They poured a concrete slab then proceed to build the house with a wood foundation. In other words, the 8 foot high basement that is underground has wooden walls/supports vs the traditional concrete blocks that most of us would have used to build our foundation on. The wood appears to be in fairly good shape. A few years back the basement would continually flood so a water barrier was installed on the outside of the house. The basement has been dry since. What problems am I looking at with a wooden foundation vs a concrete block one?
