wood floors

Posted by Christy Cozby on December 30th, 2002 11:21 AM

We are installing douglas fir flooring (1911) in our 1910 house. The living room and dining room were originally two completely separate rooms but are now connected by a wide arch. The floor joists are running in different directions in the two rooms, but we would like to run the flooring in the same direction in both rooms. Is this advisable? Will the floor be strong enough where the flooring is running the same direction as the joists?
