Hi, Eva. You told us all but what we really need to know. Under the subfloor are joists that are about 2" x 8" or 10". Your floor should run perpendicular to the way the joists run. If this is the way they run (90 degrees to the joists) then this is the way that the floor will be strongest, and less prone to buckling and squeeks. My guess is that your flooring people did it the right way.
