when i lived in montreal i used to make up my own filler by stirring dry sawdust into a product locally available called "Plastic Resin Glue".I believe it was an alkyd resin in liquid form.If i wanted a finer finish i would first screen the sawdust through a conventional window screen.I used this "woodfiller" to caulk the joints in my sloop which hull was made up of marine plywood sheeting.Alternately it served very well filling the cracks in my pine table top.25 years later I still have the table and most of the filler has hung in there.
