I think the base needs to come off.If you just pry it out and catch a little of the WS the base will be tiped out that 11/32(3/8?).Also the base will need to be shortened to make up for the thickness of the paneling(X1between door and wall.X2 wall to wall.)As for doors ,the base may stick out past the casing on any doors,just cut or file(rasp)that little bit back on a slight angle.Pull the nails out of the base from the backside this way you won't damage the face of the trim.To re-install just push the base down on the carpet untill you feel the carpet push back(not much pressure is needed).Do the two ends and have someone sight the piece to make sure it is nice and straight before you nail the middle.This seems like alot of work(and it is)butIagree with Steve it will give you a job to be proud of.Luck
