Like Sandra said,The green wire is ground which goes to the junction box . If it's Metal and the shielding for the wire is a metal like armor then the box should be grounded. If it doesn't have it and the wire is what they call sheathed electrical cable then there should be a groung wire inside the plastic caseing that contains the other wires.(black and white).
