In reply to installing bathroom window by Deb Brooks on August 13th, 2000 07:04 PM [Go to top of thread]

Hi Deb,
Clever people put there money in stocks and shares.
People like you and me hope to win the lottery, ha,.
You did not say if you had a frame or anything where the window
is/should be, if the frames there, then you can do two things.
1) fit a pane of glass with a fan fitted into it.
2) get a carpenter to make you a window. ( not the frame) and
he will then hang it for you.
when you start to tile the bath room you can start by doing the window
sill first ( thats the inside sill) start witha full tile in the middle
of the sill, and then work out left /right. you may have to cut the last
tile left/right.
when you start to tile the wall, start with a full tile under the window inline
with the centre tile thats on the sill.
( Ok, its not the way to do it normaly, but because your not a skilled tradesman/woman
then it looks better when you do it this way,
but make sure the tiles are level and I know the window will not be in the center of
the wall, so you will have a large tile on one side and a small tile on the other,
you can then work your way down to the floor, so that the last tile on the bottom
will have tobe cut,
as for the tiles that go around the window, some people only go half way up the wall
and paint the rest, or you can tile right up to the ceiling, ( ( thats for you think about)
if possible, try to end up with the small tiles the you will have to cut
in a courner somewere, out of sight, because if the walls are not in line you wont notice
any problems, ( mind you,. you will know but no matter) if it looks good then it is good.)
enjoy.....John 2000.
