Hi, Betty. Yes, many windows of that era had coil springs and it really isn't a bad system. You should have no problem washing the tracks. A little water shold not hurt them. If you do have any trouble sliding them when they have dried out, just rub some parafin wax in the tracks. You can use a candle or canning wax for this.
