window trim & molding paint removal

Posted by Peggy H. on June 24th, 2002 07:34 AM

This is my first project in my first house, so please excuse my ignorance. I'm trying to remove paint from indoor window trim and moldings.
I'm not sure if the paint is oil or latex. I've examined a large chip: almost rubbery, the top is gloss and the underside is a matte with what appear to be brush strokes and tiny bubbles. The underside is a different color than the topside.
The wood underneath is pine, stained, with a varnish of some type. I'd like to bring it back to that. All the other windows are the stained wood and I want them to match.
I'm currently using a scraper and trying to be *very* careful. Some parts have dome right off no problem; but last night I hit a 3-inch patch that I worked on for 2 hours. Even though I was careful I can clearly see nicks. What should I do?
I saw a product called "Peel-Away 6" on, but I don't know if it's a gimmick or what.
Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
