You have to pry it all up with crow bars and big hammers. The only way to remove the old adhesive is with a big sander as used to refinish old wood floors.

Are you sure it is not refinishable? If it is really an OLD wood floor you can sand it down to like new. If it's a laminate it's worthless, even when new.
