A carpenter put new white cedar shingles on my house. He had put them up tight to each other, after several weeks of drying they have shrunk and now match the rest of the house with spaces between all. No problem.
Well last week he put some more up, however it has been raining a few days and the new shingles have not had time to shrink, instead they expanded due to all the rain and are now buckling.
Will these eventually dry out and go back to their normal positions and shrink to have spaces like the others? Is it proper technique to put them up tight to each other? If he would have put the others up with spaces the spaces would be HUGE now due to the shrinkage.
