These primers come in a number of oil, shellac and latex formulations. I have not had any problems applying acrylic or alkyd finish coat over any of the Kilz or Zinesser primers. Each formulation has a "best use" for stain or odor blocking, coverage and interior / exterior use, but adhesion and compatibility is not normally an issue.
