what to do with ABESTOS SHINGLES

Posted by Lisa on April 12th, 2001 10:47 PM

I was going to paint my house this spring but I have run into a huge problem. I have abestos shingles on my house. They seem to be in good shape except where the wind is strong I am missing some. I have done alittle bit of investigating and It seems it would be easiest for me to just cover them up with siding since they are not broken. But I am not sure how to go about doing this. How would I hang the siding up with out breaking the abestos? I am planning on using 4x8 wood siding. Using screws to attach. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am also wondering if I get these hung if the abestos would still absorb moisture and cause problems?? As you can tell I am not sure what would be best.
If you know of any helpful sites on abestos I could sure use them. Most of the ones I come across just explain the health risks. But none that really explain how to solve my problem. Thank You
