I have this problem too, and had heard that sweeping talc over the floor would allow it to fall in the cracks and stop the sqeaking.

First of all, it's very difficult to find plain old talc (talcum powder). Plenty of places sell medicated, perfumed talc, but not pure talc. I finally found some at a pharmacy. It's not cheap.

Secondly, and more important, it didn't work. It doesn't really fall into the cracks. Rather, it just leaves talc all over your floors, which is difficult to clean up.
