Hi Fizzgigger,

You need to have someone try to identify the smell. And in addition, how can you be sure of the source??? Once the smell is identified, that should help determine if it's the fireplace, something 'behind' the wall, or something in the carpet/padding/floor. Of course, whoever is doing the smelling shouldn't have allergies. Let's go from here first.
