In reply to How long does settling occur? by Dave Morris on January 25th, 2001 07:55 AM [Go to top of thread]

You know you can control or assist in the minimization of settleing by watering your foundation during times of lack of rain.

Procedures state, place a soaker hose all around the home and about 12 to 18 inches from the foundation. water to maintain the moisture in the soil, this is DEEP Watering. Also, water the foundation evenly. If you water one side and omitt the other this is not good.

Remember, water makes soil fuller and higher, lack of water makes soil shrink and fall, the foundations go with the dirt.

I have a 30 year old home and I am the only owner. We just spent $35K last year due to foundation problems and we water our foundation also. But also we are in a 7 year severe drought.
