Weight Bearing Walls in Attic

Posted by roy on January 15th, 2001 11:58 PM

June 2000 we moved into our new Cape Cod (c.1951) with a finished attic. We painted the whole house and know that all joints were tight at that time. By November we started to notice separation of the knee wall from the ceiling in the attic. It has gotten so big I can put all of my fingers in the crack. There are also cracks running up and down 2 corners on the other side of the room. The drywall tape on either side of the straight ridge across the top of the ceiling has started to separate and droop. The room is looking like a mess.

I don't know when the work on this room was constructed and finished.

Have I got a huge problem here?
