waxing a wood floor

Posted by djts on July 2nd, 1999 08:54 AM

We are finishing the pine floors in our new home. After sanding and staining we want to apply a paste wax to our new pine floors. The primary reason for this is that we have pets and they do scratch and mar floors. Our thinking is that we can spot repair much more easily with a wax than a urethane and the wax has a good water repellancy. Has anyone ever done this? Is there something we should do to the wood BETWEEN staining and waxing? If anyone knows now why this procedure should not occur...speak now or forever hold your peace...we're finishing the floors tomorrow! Also does anyone know where, besides my mother-in-law's, I could get a household floor buffer? They don't seem to make them anymore.
