I have purchased a home that has a finished basement with a tile floor. The floor is great but it has a great deal of wax build-up on it. The floor looks dirty but when I wash it, the floor never comes clean because of the old wax. I can literally scrape the wax off with any sharp object. I have used a commercial floor machine with an abrasive pad and good wax stripping solution, but all I keep getting is a white film. I have spent 2 hours with the machine in a single 4' x 4' area and all that comes off the floor is wax. The house was built in 1952 and this basement floor was installed in 1964. I have no idea if it has ever been stripped, but they liked to wax it! I have also used straight ammonia with a scrub brush with better results - but there has to be a better way! Please advise, thanks!
