I just bought a home and a brand new water softener was included. The home had been sitting for 2 years and the softner had water and salt in the tank. I ran the softner and ended up with orange colored salt that clogged the pipes. A plumber had to use an air compressor to blow out the salt. I am afraid to regenerate the softner again. Apparently the softner needs cleaned. Is this something I can do myself or should I involve a Sears technician.
