Waterproofing basement

Posted by Kent Jackson on January 16th, 1999 10:06 PM

We have a couple foundation cracks which bring in water in our basement during heavy rainstorms. Althoug it's just a few puddles, we're planning on refinishing the basement and need this fixed.

The proposals we got had two options:

1. Seal the crack with polyeurethane, put in a sump pump in area, and cover wall with waterproof britewall panel.

2. Goes a bit further to the above with the addition of a drainage system around the floor of the foundation which would feed into the sump pump.

The water has never been severe, just some big puddles. What is the difference between the two options and is it worth the expense (more than double the cost) to go with the second option? Will the first suffice?
