a softener will not take care of your iron problem, esp at 7 ppm iron, you will ruin the resin bed. to remove iron you must install an manganese greensand unit which removes iron/sulphur and backwashes itself with potassium permanganate. the pH of 6.5 is not terrible but should be corrected with an acid neutralizer.
