Is a properly working softener supposed to have standing water at the bottom of the salt tank? When the unit was first installed, it said in the owners manual to pour in about 3 gallons of water and I have always noticed some standing water when the salt gets real low. Last week I cleaned out the old salt at the bottom of the tank with a shop vac and sucked out all the old salt and standing water. I replaced with fresh clean salt without adding any water into the salt tank. It has since recycled two or three times like normal and we seem to be getting soft water. Does anyone know whether a properly working water softerner is supposed to have some standing water? If so, how much is normal? Thanks.
