We are renovating our 1880's house we bought last summer. We're working on the kitchen and have an unusual problem. There's no crawl space under the kitchen for us to run the water lines. We had to gut the kitchen and replace the floor because of water damage so while we were at it we replaced the drain pipe but we didn't want to run the water lines under the floor since they would be inaccessible if we ever had to repair them. When we bought the house the water lines were running on the floor along the base of the cabinets. We want to run them behind the refrigerator and behind the cabinets along the floor/wall juncture. That way, they'll at least be protected from people kicking them. Has anyone had experience with this sort of thing or have any recommendations for us? Does anyone know if running the water lines along the floor will violate plumbing codes or is it more an aesthetic consideration?
