Water in basement

Posted by Lana on February 9th, 2001 05:59 PM

I have my mother's 50 yr old house up for sale and just after I listed it they had an 8" rain. Water of course got into the basement but only a bit which was easily swept into the drain and gone in a couple of days totally. Now the realtor is telling me that the basement is a HUGE problem! The cement block walls are waterproofed and the basement gets water in it only after tremendous rains and then drys out quickly. It is a bit musty but I see no signs of mold or rot and the wooden stairs have set right on this cement floor for 50 yrs and are fine. The basement is not finished and is not likely to ever be needed for anything, the house is huge and has more storage than anyone could possibly need. Am I minimizing the situation or is the realtor just over-reacting? Input appreciated. Thanks
