Martha, Steve's right, just pull it down. However, watch out for wasp nest at this time of year. Once I put my hand against a ivy covered wall so I could look move the ivy to see the foundation when 5 of the little beasties stung me on the wrist. Never saw them. You might want to use a rake to pull them down. A power washer will take care of the stuff that's left where the ivy was attached and a wire brush will take care of the rest.
