My wife proceeded to remove the wallpaper in our downstairs bathroom yesterday, using DIF. Unfortunately, I'm guessing that she did not let the stuff soak in properly, after scoring the paper, and pulled the paper from the drywall off with the wallpaper.
We want to paint, but the wall is very rough and splotchy with numerous tears in the paper of the drywall and uneven spots due to these tears. Can I sand the wallboard down in it's entirety, essentially removing the paper completely from the drywall? Do I need to replace the walls before painting? Should I spackle and sand around the tears, making them smooth (this would be a huge job, as the drywall paper covering on all four walls is torn to shreds.)
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!
