wallpaper over backerboard

Posted by Ann on August 6th, 2001 05:46 PM

I removed old tile and drywall from the backsplash area around my kitchen cabinets and installed backerboard, planning to re-tile the area after installing new cabinets. Now I am thinking aabout using vinyl wallpaper instead of tile as I like to be able to change things at times. Since the backerboard has a rough surface I can think of two ways -- cover the backerboard with 1/4 inch Luan plywood or plaster over the backerboard with joint compound. Or would the wallpaper glue smooth out the surface and allow for good adhesion? Any suggestions appreciated.
