I installed a ceiling fan WITHOUT A LIGHT KIT and the wall switch does not work.
The wiring was all in place. New home. The wall switch is a rocker switch. It has a red and black and ground connected to it. The white is tied off with other whites in a wire nut.
From the ceiling was a red, black, white and ground. I connected the black to black, white to white and ground to ground. I put a wire nut on the red. Since I do not have a light and figured it was for that purpose, I did not use it.
The switch does not work. I have to use the pull chain to turn the fan on and off.
I am now thinking that if I had wired the red from the ceiling to the black in the fan it would probably have worked. But I would like to solve this problem without having to dismantle the fan and rewire it.
Have I made the correct assumptions? Is this possible to fix this without taking the fan apart?
