Vinyl Siding / please help!

Posted by Sean Petty on April 2nd, 2003 12:54 PM

I looked b4 i asked, so here goes. I have a small cape style home with cedar shingles. We will begin by sripping all old shingles off. We then will staple some house wrap on the entire surface. I like the looks of wood trim contrasted with the vinyl siding. My first question:
1) What type of wood should be used for some fancy trim work? Pine / or popluar hardwood, etc...??
2) After the trim goes up over the wrap. Should we put vertical strapping to create a gap between the wrap and vinyl? If a gap is necessary what should the thickness be?
3) I guess now would be a good time to run some phone lines / electrical wires up to the second floor, again over the wrap, is this correct to do? I will assume the use of conduit to run the wires in, right?

Any information would be of a great help / appreciation.
