vinyl-asbestos tile

Posted by rich on September 6th, 2001 12:21 AM

I recently had drain tile added to my house after a heavy rains flooded the basement. After I removed the old, wet carpeting, I found a vinyl flooring. I was told that this type of vinyl contained asbestos. To make a long story short, the crew the local drain tile company came in and jack-hammered around the foundation to put in the new tile. In doing so, they hammered through the tile containing the asbestos (I don't know if they hammered thru the tile or pried it up). Most of the dust was contained to the basement, although some did sneak upstairs. How much asbestos does this tile contain? Should I be concerned about the health risk associated with asbestos floating upstairs while this crew worked? Lastly, what about the cleanup of dust that has settled on bookcases and some furniture in the basement? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

All the best,
