I like the idea of using vinegar since it's a mild acid. Strong acids, over a period of time, tend to eat away traps and damage pipes. When I use to do home repairs, I saw iron stains and calcium so thick that the only way to get them out was to scrape them out with a screwdriver! Then that left little black marks that didn't come out either! Good luck
