Ventilation needed for new siding?

Posted by Cecilia H. on July 23rd, 2001 02:31 PM

Need help, please. I've had several contractors out to give quotes on putting vinyl house siding on the gables, soffits, etc. of my older brick home. Two said that holes need to be put every four or so feet along the soffit for ventilation and one said it was not necessary.

My home currently has only triangular vents at the top of the 2 gables - and no roof vents. If I get soffit ventilation holes (and is this REALLY necessary?), do roof vents need to be added, too. Thanks, Cecilia
