use of foamboard near the roof deck is another vapor barrier & should NOT be used as described by Bruce in cold climates.Vapor barrier needs to be on warm side to prevent condensation forming between the foam board & the batts.Use foam on the WARM side only as the support for the batts then leave space above the batts for air movement.
