Henry, if the test for shellac is alcohol(denatured is preferred I presume), what is the test for varnish? Also is there a test for polyurethane, both oil and latex? There is so many different finishes being used around here, its hard to tell by looking as to what you are dealing with when you want to do some touch up or matching, etc. I have some moisture damaged baseboard, door, and door trim in a bathroom to refurbish some time. I've heard it easier to tear baseboard out and put in new than fix it but then I would need to match the stain on oak and I still have to deal with the inside of the door. Thanks in advance.
