I had a home built last year that I have discovered has no vapor barrier underneath the vinyl siding. Part of the problem has been that the house has had air noticeable leaks around the window sills during the winter. I have reported this problem and the absence of a vapor barrier to the builder within the one year limit on the warranty. The builder has prescribed a repair that consists of removing the siding an installing "tyvek" along the horizontal seams of the osb. The builder intends to use twelve a inch wide sheet of tyvek to cover these horizontal seams.
I live in Manchester new hampshire on a slope where it is windy. Does the builder's repair fall within industry standards and will it be sufficient to protect the home from wind blown rain? How should this repair done properly?
