If you are interested in a good upright vacuum, consider the Panasnic Upright. In our family repair shop, it is the only vacuum cleaner we see in for repair. Kirby is an excellant vacuum, last for many many years if you take care of it and do yearly maintainance/service (general cleaning) on it

A good canister vacuum is the Filter Queen Canister. They are quiet running, very rarely seen in repair shop. Excellant suction and power. They seem to last many many years.
