Asphalt (Blacktop) driveways are estimated by the contractor doing the work. Since a paving machine is required, the process doesn't lend itself to the DIY'r.
But, if you are trying to estimate the number of cubic yards to pave your driveway, take the area in square feet, multiply by the thickness in feet, (usually 0.25 to 0.3 feet for domestic driveways) and divide by 27. The answer will be in cubic yards.
