I had a similar situation. We had 4 big yews in front of the house that we wanted to remove. I dug about a foot deep all the way around the shrubs and wraped a heavy tow strap around each shrub. Hooked the other end of the strap to the trailer hitch on my Chevy Silverado and locked it in 4 hi. and gave them a big pull.
Worked really slick. Roots and all!!
Good luck, and be careful that you don't go cheap on the tow strap, use a heavy duty one, or a heavy chain.
