I'm not sure what you want, but if you can place the square on the bannister or on the nosing line of the stairs, then just use a level. When the bubble is dead center, you can eyeball your angle. Just move up the wall to do this for the rail. You should be able to measure up the same distance from the top and bottom of the stairs to get your rail at the same angle.
