Urethane on marble?

Posted by May C on November 6th, 2002 11:23 PM

Our marble countertop had stains like dried watermarks all over the surface and we don't know what could have caused it.

We asked different natural stone suppliers and installers for ways to repair that, but most of them tell us that there is no way to repair it.

When we finally got a store that told us they can fix it by putting on a "high gloss finish". When it was done we realized that it was too glossy, too rough and there was too much of a plastic feel to the marble. It turn out to be that the repairman had spray Urethane to coat our marble counter.

It looks awful!! Is that the right way to do it? People are telling me that urethane should never be used on natural stones. Can someone tell me your opinion and is there a way to fix the now urethane-covered contertop?
